Musical Genius Brian Wilson signs with Disney

Published Oct 10, 2009

Brian Wilson

I'm not a music kind of guy but this sounds ( excuse the pun ) amazing. If you don't believe Brian Wilson is a musical genius then spend about ten minutes on wiki or googling him. Tortured, excentric but genius non-the-less. Click thru to read about the two projects he is coming to Disney Music to work on.

The first is the Gershwin estates ( there are two: George and Ira ) will allow him to finish and collaborate on unfinished George Gershwin music and re-work classic George and Ira Gershwin music. Mind blowing.

The second is Brian will put his special musings on classic Disney tunes.

From the press release:

Wilson chose to record George and Ira Gershwin songs because he considers the late composers of classics like "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Summertime" as a critical influence on him. "I've always loved George Gershwin. The earliest music I remember hearing is 'Rhapsody in Blue,'" says Wilson, referring to Gershwin's groundbreaking 1924 orchestral piece. "Along with Irving Berlin, Gershwin basically invented the popular song, but he did something more. He had a gift for melody that nobody has ever equaled yet his music is timeless and always accessible.

The Gershwin's music is mostly eight decades old but so timeless you still hear music contestants use it as an audition piece today on shows like American Idol.
